What is PTK ?

Owned and operated by the Haughey family, PTK is dedicated to the ethical racing and breeding of Thoroughbreds. Founded in 1999, it began when one amazing woman fulfilled a childhood dream of owning her very own racehorse. Thankfully, she took her husband and daughter along for what became the ride of a lifetime.

Who are PTK ?

PAULA

KAITLIN

PAULA

A lifelong horse lover, Los Alamitos and Hollywood Park were favorite haunts of her parents, and she spent many hours eyeing racehorses over the pages of a textbook. The seed of the PTK dream was firmly planted in those days, and that little girl went on to be the best owner any racehorse could ask for.

The backbone of PTK and irreplaceable in every way, Paula passed away in 2020.

TOM

KAITLIN

PAULA

Though PTK began with Paula, it was Tom who got the ball rolling by purchasing an interest in a two year-old as a gift for her in 1998. While he views himself as more horseplayer than horseman, Tom's business sense and love of playing the ponies continues to bring a valuable perspective to the table.

He has a special talent for naming horses, which the family treats as a competitive event.

KAITLIN

Often overheard joking that she brings up the rear, the truth is that Kaitlin has loved every second of life as the K in PTK. An avid horse lover and nutty for racing history, she is now responsible for much of the administrative work behind PTK, with her true passion lying in the breeding program.

Preferring life behind the camera to life in front of it, many of her photos appear on this site.

Love, Loyalty, Friendship

Representing all these qualities, the claddagh was Paula and Tom's symbol of choice for their wedding rings, and it was only fitting that it grace their silks as well. The design serves as a tribute to the family's Irish roots and an enduring reminder of PTK's core values.
